BNB Chain will collaborate with the Blockchain Center of the University of Zurich (UZH BCC) in designing a section of the course on fundamental blockchain concepts and host an NFT workshop for students. The participation in the UZH International Summer Schools 2022 program will be led by Alvin Kan, Ecosystem Coordinator for Games and NFT and Director of Data & Research at BNB Chain.

Binance CEO, Changpeng Zhao (CZ) announced the collaboration with the University of Zurich at Point Zero Forum, Zurich on June 22.

This course marks the 3rd edition of the International Summer School “Deep Dive into Blockchain” which is a 3-week course set to start on July, 3 2022 that will give students a complete interdisciplinary immersion into blockchain from world-leading academic experts in the field and practitioners representing a unique selection of platforms.

BNB Chain will lead the way by hosting the first industry lecture for students on July 8, 2022, at 13:00 CEST, covering essential blockchain topics such as consensus model, assets in the ledger, data storage in blocks, identity, governance, and smart contracts. Following that, on July 8, 2022, at 15:00 CEST, students will learn how to mint NFTs on the BNB Chain in a workshop delivered by Alvin. The program is highly interactive, with hands-on sessions incorporating the most advanced and promising blockchain-based platforms, including BNB Chain.

Students will work on a project throughout the course that will be presented to a panel of blockchain practitioners, including BNB Chain, on July 22, 2022. Alvin from BNB Chain will also be closely involved in the design of use cases in which groups of five students with backgrounds in Computer Science, Economics, Business, and Law will collaborate on projects that utilize BNB Chain's strengths. Students will receive a certificate from the University of Zurich and an NFT (Proof-of-Achievement) from Binance NFT upon successful completion of the course.

“BNB Chain wants to accelerate the development of blockchain technology and empower students to build innovative projects. This collaboration is an opportunity for the students to dive deeper into blockchain technology and contribute to the future of Web3, as well as for us to amplify the mass adoption of blockchain,” said Alvin Kan, Ecosystem Coordinator for Games and NFT and Director of Data & Research at BNB Chain.

This is one of many collaborations between BNB Chain and universities around the world to develop talent for the new Internet (Web3). BNB Chain has previously organized in-person workshops and developer events with educational institutions such as the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, Epitech Technology, Ecole 42, and others.

Blockchain-based systems, with cryptocurrencies as the most prominent example, have reshaped the way people think about digital finance and other similar applications. In its third edition, the Summer School will host once again more than 80 students from all around the globe and many educational backgrounds. The course is directed by Claudio J. Tessone, Professor of Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technologies, and Chairman of the UZH BCC. UZH BCC is the largest and most active Academic initiative in Switzerland, a renowned World-wide Blockchain-hub which approaches blockchains from a holistic point of view, leveraging on 21 Professors and more than 40 members from the most varied areas of knowledge.

The blockchain course in collaboration with BNB Chain is the latest in an annual series that aims to help students understand the economic incentives inherent in blockchain-based systems. The program has been tailored to offer students the opportunity to critically assess the decisions taken when designing blockchain technologies.

Related to the program and BNB Chain, Prof. Tessone said: “We are happy to host for the first time BNB Chain into our programme. While organizing it, we pay specific attention to offer to our students a broad selection of the most promising – and at the same, varied – platforms, because we want them to critically analyze the information that reaches them. There is a plethora of material out there, but separating facts from narrative can only be done with proper education.
BNB Chain is one of the most successful platforms nowadays; and at the same time, it is one that followed a very different path from other blockchains and DLTs. This case is a very interesting learning lesson to the students.”

UZH Summer School Deep Dive into Blockchain offers a full understanding of blockchains, their implications and potential for application in practice. The institution recognizes that it is crucial to look at them from a multidisciplinary perspective. This is exactly what the UZH BCC offers during the three weeks of this course. The aim is for students to develop the ability to critically reflect on different blockchain technologies. They will also understand the three key pillars of blockchain systems, namely the technology, the economics and the legal aspects behind it.
