Let’s give a warm welcome to another dApp Star in May, SPACE ID, a chain-agnostic, decentralized, censorship-resistant, and open-source project building a universal name service network that seamlessly connects people, information, assets, and applications across blockchains.
Let’s Learn more about the innovations they’re bringing to the industry in our interview with the SPACE ID team.
IMPORTANT: Please note the following content does not constitute an endorsement or approval of any of the products or services of the project, organization, or individual.
1. Please describe SPACE ID to those unfamiliar with it. What's your vision and mission?
SPACE ID is building a universal name service network that seamlessly connects people, information, assets, and applications across blockchains. It’s chain-agnostic, decentralized, censorship-resistant, and open-sourced.
In SPACE ID, we believe that the core of Web3 is to become the gateway between decentralized identities and the physical/digital world, and we are ready to take initiative to bring this to life, aiming to become the leader in this.
2. When was the idea behind SPACE ID born, and what led to it?
As we are approaching the Web3 age with full speed, the emergence of decentralized identity and various Web3 name services have created robust identity systems, which include readable usernames that are portable across individual dapps and blockchains. We already see how those applications greatly improve accessibility, and they will no doubt become a fundamental component of the future world.
However, most identifiers are segregated and limited within different blockchains and dapps. SPACE ID is thus born, aiming to break this deadlock.
3. Tell us something about your team's background.
SPACE ID team members come from a Web3 native startup background. Our team has complementary skill sets and various experiences in Web3. As a united force, we have full-time expertise in the realm of Web3 companies, entrepreneurship, DAO contributors, etc.
Our collaboration can be traced all the way back to the previous startup from the very beginning. After successfully launching the project, we’ve all realized a greater potential in what we are capable of, so we decided to start again to take our vision further.
4. What are the main advantages of SPACE ID for the user, compared to a similar project from a mainstream digital identity market?
We see digital identities are gradually becoming a core vision and inevitable in the process of Web3. ENS, DID.ID, TNS, Bonfida, and Unstoppable Domains have played their parts but we want to take it to another level. We believe our products are further imagining the Web3 future and the role that digital identities play because of the following three major features:
1. One Name for All Chains: SPACE ID helps users register and use their unique and blockchain-agnostic username.
2. Not Just a Username: Space ID is not just a username but also a self-sovereign database to locate resources across any chain.
3. Security and Availability: Lucas, an ad-hoc blockchain, allows users to bridge and store the data on any chain of choice. Yoda, SID's protector, ensures the safety and security of users’ information through oracles and relayers.
5. What is the security strategy of your project?
To ensure the security of our project, we will control the scope of the services we provide and break down the process into multiple stages. For each stage, we will set a goal to meet the security criteria. These stages will be moved from a more centralized service to a decentralized service since we need more centralized control to be able to quickly make the response to emergencies at the beginning. As the project becomes more stable, we will open the ability to the public, leveraging the strong community to perform checks and balances for the security of the product.
6. Let's say I want to start using SPACE ID. Where do I start? Where can I find some how-to guides?
SPACE ID is still in the early stage of development, and the team is currently busy working on the integration and building at a fast pace. Our first product, .bnb Domain Name Service, will be live very soon. Make sure you join our community to get the latest updates (links can be found towards the end of this article).
7. Why did you decide to migrate/build on BNB Chain?
First and foremost, we love BNB Chain, and currently there isn’t a good standard domain name service on BNB Chain. That’s why we decided to start SPACE ID with our first product, .bnb Domain Name Service, which aims to be the standard domain identifier to be integrated with its whole ecosystem.
Besides, since a lot of existing name services are built on other chains, building on BNB Chain enables us to fundamentally optimize the registration process because of its outstanding performance compared to the others.
8. What do you hope to see next from the BNB Chain community?
As mentioned above, our starting product is aiming to become the standard domain identifier to be integrated with its whole ecosystem. We are currently working hard on all the integration and development and you will soon be able to smoothly use your BNB domain with support from wallets, blockchain explorers, browsers, and many other dapps built on top of BNB Chain. We have already received lots of support from the BNB Chain community and we hope the product will elevate everybody’s BNB Chain experience.
9. Do you have a roadmap, whitepaper, or relevant links to share?

10. Is there any upcoming event you would like the BNB Chain community to know about?
To start off .bnb Domain Name Service, there will be pre-registration and public registration rounds. People who participate in the pre-registration round are whitelisted and can register their first .bnb domain names earlier. The whitelist will be carefully selected through a series of whitelist campaigns that we collaborate with our partners and launch within the communities. More detailed info on how we will run these campaigns will be released in the future.
