BNB Chain Spotlight: The Harvest

Let's play The Harvest! Enter into an incredible fantasy world that's taking Web3 by storm.

We recently caught up with the team behind The Harvest. It's an ambitious third-person shooter with top-notch visuals that's creating a buzz on the blockchain. Read ahead to learn more about their upcoming beta release.

1. Describe The Harvest for those unfamiliar with it. What's your vision and mission?

The Harvest is a third-person hero shooter with MOBA and Battle Royale elements, designed for PC. We think it will be the best shooter in Web3 when it launches.

We aim to bring in mass adoption for the game by distributing through mainstream platforms like Steam and not requiring blockchain interaction for the average player.

2. When was the idea behind Harvest born, and what led to it?

Our development team, The Breach Studios, has been working on the game for 3+ years. The studio has put a lot of passion into designing a deep lore for the game, and building gameplay around the lore.

Falco, the publisher, started working with The Breach Studios early 2022, and is leading all blockchain, marketing and sales efforts, with the goal of bringing the game to the mainstream and Web3 audiences.

3. Tell us about your team's background.

Ferran, Ivan, Raul and Jordi (The Breach Studio execs) have known each other since 2005, by chatting at game development forums back in the day. In 2010, Ferran and Ivan started their own company, Kerad Games, along with Gerard Piqué (FC Barcelona professional football player), shipping 4 games with more than 50M downloads and 6 years in liveops. Jordi joined them early in 2018.

After 15 years of experience creating games for top studios like Ubisoft, King, GameLoft, Konami, passionate game creators came together and started The Breach Studio in late 2018.

Regarding the blockchain expertise and strategy, we would like to highlight that The Breach Studios met Caio Jahara, Andres Bilbao and Antonio Viggiano around the time the pandemic started. This trio had already worked with big blockchain projects (Mouse Haunt and Invert) for some time, understanding how to scale marketing, technology and operations in a Web 3.0 company.

These two groups discussed the possibility of partnering up to build a world class crypto game. Finally around six months back they decided to finally go for it. Additionally, Luiz Piccini (CEO) and Alessandro Rosa (CMO) both joined the company as ex-Wildlife Studios employees, having worked with mobile games for years.

4. What are the main advantages of Harvest for users, compared to a similar project from a mainstream financial market?

In terms of of comparing The Harvest with other GameFi projects, it's a game developed over 3+ years focused on gameplay, built on Unreal Engine 5 - quite different from the first generation of blockchain games that focus more on financial aspects.

We're building a game to last for several years as a fun-first game that can attract a more mainstream audience, apart obviously from Web3 players.

5. What is the security strategy of your project?

This is not as big a concern in GameFi as it is in financial products. Users will hold NFTs which are in-game assets and they can trade these assets in established marketplaces (such as BNB’s NFT marketplace, Fractal, OpenSea, etc).

6. Let's say I want to start using Harvest. Where do I start? Where can I find some how-to guides?

Anyone will be able to download the game on Steam if they have a PC and an internet connection (the game will be online-only). We expect the open beta to begin in mid-December 2022. No wallet/blockchain interaction is necessary.

7. Why did you decide to migrate/build on the BNB Chain?

We have been working with the Binance team for a while - we have sold NFTs in the Binance NFT marketplace, we have done a few community events like the Football Fiesta (for the World Cup) and have a very positive view on the impact BNB Chain has on the Web3 ecosystem. We understand why Binance is a leader in the space.

We had the pleasure to meet some of the team on an in-person event (Token 2049) which strengthened our relationship.

BNB Chain also ticks all of our tech requirements - transactions process fast, cheap, and there have been no scalability issues to be spoken of.

8. What do you hope to see next from the BNB Chain community?

Blockchain gaming is in its infancy. We are seeing a slow but steady movement of talent from the traditional free-to-play industry to blockchain gaming, and with this, the quality of games will only increase.

We expect BNB Chain to be leaders in the space in the coming years, hosting several of the most successful games in the blockchain space.

BNB Chain also has a very strong institutional presence and reach, which facilitates GameFi projects to interact with other games, esports teams, Web3 guilds, and even Web2 brands.

9. Where do you position your brand in the DeFi/NFT/GameFi / Metaverse space?

We believe The Harvest will be the best third-person shooter in the blockchain space by launch in early 2023.

10. How can GameFi users get started with your product?

Starting in mid-December 2022, any PC user will be able to download the game on Steam.

11. What are the benefits of interacting with your Play-to-Earn model?

We are focused on fun first. This is really relevant and is at the core of how we designed our NFTs into the game. On one side, are gamers who want to inject money into the game and expect to only extract fun. On the other, there will be a smaller contingent of players that will aim to sell items and other currencies they have earned on an open marketplace.

As players progress by winning matches, they will accumulate hero cards, which can exist as tradable collectibles. There will be a market where players can trade these cards. Cosmetics, such as skins, avatars and battle tags, will also be collectibles.

As stated above, from a business development perspective, BNB Chain is unmatched. The team has the largest reach in the industry, is very active in building communities, and has already added a lot of value to The Harvest. Technically, it ticks every requirement for the NFT integrations to run smoothly.

As always, with game development, these are planned milestones, which could see changes in date and scope.

  • Mid December: open beta launch. This update will feature improvements to game stability, server scalability, NPC behavior, improvements to the battle royale ring system, and calibrations to hero’s power levels, among many others.
  • Late January: first open beta patch. This update will feature new NPC models, improved NPC placement and quantity within the map, improvements to the player respawn system around the map, improvements to weapon/hitbox latency, a spectator mode for tournaments, graphics and audio settings, UI/UX improvements both in-game and in some menu screens, among many others.
  • Q1 2023: full game launch.

We expect to launch 2 additional heroes by game launch or shortly after, and many surprises to come!

14. What can you share about your tokenomic model?

We have recently redesigned much around our gameplay elements as it pertains to the tokenomic model. This will be featured in our next iteration of our whitepaper, to come as we launch the open beta.

The main announcement on this topic is our token’s public sale, which will happen in Q1 2023.

15. Finally, are you planning any upcoming events?

Always! There are going to be The Harvest tournaments happening throughout December, January and February. We are planning something big with BNB Chain which we hope to announce soon.

We are also hosting weekly play sessions where players can earn NFT cards by winning matches - these are always announced on our Discord!
